Inscriptions of the Kakatiyas of Warangal (A.D. 1050–1326)
About the Book
Inscriptions of the Kakatiyas of Warangal (A.D. 1050–1326) is a comprehensive scholarly volume that brings together 367 inscriptions from the Kakatiya period, a dynasty that played a pivotal role in shaping the history of South India, particularly Andhra. These inscriptions, composed in Telugu, Kannada, and Sanskrit, provide valuable insights into the political, cultural, religious, and economic life of the period.
The volume is part of the “Inscriptions of India Programme” initiated by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), which aims to compile and make accessible epigraphical records that were previously scattered across various publications and archives. By consolidating these inscriptions into a single corpus, the book serves as an indispensable resource for historians, epigraphists, and researchers.
The Kakatiyas were instrumental in unifying the Andhra region under a single rule and fostering significant developments in administration, literature, architecture, and regional languages. The inscriptions presented in this volume not only document historical events but also reflect literary excellence, with several Sanskrit records resembling classical kavya compositions.

About the Series
This volume is part of the “Inscriptions of India Programme” undertaken by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR). The programme focuses on systematically collecting, editing, and publishing inscriptions from different dynasties and regions across India.
Given that epigraphical data is often dispersed across journals, reports, and rare publications, the series aims to consolidate these sources into accessible, well-edited volumes. Each publication in the series contributes to a deeper understanding of India’s historical and cultural heritage by providing primary source material for academic research.
The inclusion of dynasty-wise volumes, such as this one on the Kakatiyas, reflects a structured effort to document regional histories with scholarly rigor and clarity.
